Prezzo closure – official confirmation

We did mention a while ago that apparently Prezzo was closing for the next month or so, over the holiday period.  Which was surprising as, obviously, this is the busiest time of year.  We suspected that any closure would, in fact, be permanent.  As, indeed this has proved to be the case – unfortunately for the staff who worked there.

Prezzo announced earlier this year that it was having to close about a third of its restaurants for financial reasons.  (You can read more about the subject here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43515133)

  1. Another case of being just that step too far. You go past Pizza Express, Zizzi, Starbucks, Bella Italia, Frankie & Bennys, Nando’s, the new burger place and Wagamama and then you’re the escalator for the cinema or a Chinese. Footfall is all. Is the same in Park Street, though the ballet school and estate agent are interesting additions.

  2. The note says it all.Better prospects elsewhere!

It is a tough call in todays high street environment.
Business rates are out of kilter with reality. Landlords owning acres of retail space have been milking it for years are now facing demands to reduce rents.

Is Camberley one of the HOF sites which has reacted and given Mike Ashley the benefits of an extremely low rent?
No issue but if this is the case what about other retailers are they getting the same reductions and how do these lower rents impact the finances of SHBC and their £90M purchase of Camberley Town Centre?

It also appears that the premium car dealer Audi is also on the move out of Camberley.

    • Camberley HoF has had a rent reduction, which the council accepts will impact on their projected income. How other tenants in The Square react is a matter for conjecture…. But re Audi, I’d only heard a rumour. They are currently advertising for a sales administrator..
