Why do council personnel cross the road?

We don’t know the answer to the question that we’ve just posed, but we assume that council personnel DO use the Knoll Road pedestrian crossing near the council offices.  In which case, why does the crossing have the worst puddle in the road?  When we were there last week, two ‘mature ladies’ complained to us about the puddle and said it had been like that for the last five years.  They didn’t seem to be agile enough to leap over the water, so they simply plodded through it.

We know the borough council isn’t responsible for roads in the town.  But, surely, council personnel have their feet on the ground (not their heads in the clouds), and have seen the puddle?  In which case, in an effective joined-up government, the borough council should be working with the county council to get problems like this sorted out.

  1. I’m afraid this reinforces my recent comment regarding the A30 frontage, Council employees must actually be affected by this puddle and still they don’t see the connection between themselves and the responsibility to care for our town. Someone at SHBC must know the right phone number at County Hall that would get this fixed? And don’t start me on potholes! As you so rightly have said, its about Leadership – clearly there is no inspiration from the top. Little things matter and often have the greatest impact.

    • Should be the responsibility of local councillors to report to ensure there is a connect between them and County and they (local) also have accountability.
So often you hear the cop out about anything road related…its County responsibility.
Too many levels of government IMHO..just leads to buck passing and wasting money.

Eg Why does every county have a ridiculous ott council chamber??

  2. I suspect the cost would be in the region of £10000 to fix for 3 men for 3 days plus machinery and materials. It is far more efficient for all resident to wear wellington boots when visiting the town if it has rained in the last week.
