One of our fans (!) pointed out to us the other day that the lights were on in the cafe area of the former BHS store – now owned by the borough council. (You can see in our photo that the serving counter is still in place, though all the furniture has long gone.)
On the one hand, it’s comforting to see that – presumably – work to redevelop the building is in progress. On the other hand, we’re reminded that the council has failed for years to switch off the glowing fluorescent lights in the car park just above BHS. A pointless waste of electricity.
Once upon a time there used to be a saying ‘Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves.’ We can only assume that the council has too many pennies – which it has collected from us, of course.
