As many questions have been asked about the future of the ’empty half’ of the Waitrose building on the former Notcutts site in Bagshott, we thought we’d give we’d give the village honorary Camberley status just this once… This means that we can announce a new planning application:
“UNIT 2, RETAIL DEVELOPMENT SITE, (FORMERLY NOTCUTTS GARDEN
CENTRE),150-152 LONDON ROAD, BAGSHOT
“Subdivision of existing retail unit to provide 3 No. retail units to be used for the following : one unit for the sale of building goods and goods relating to outdoor pursuits with ancillary travel clinic (Class A1); one unit for the sale of building goods with ancillary pet care, treatment and grooming facilities and installation of mezzanine floor (Class A1); and one used as a cafe/restaurant (Class A3).”
(Photo from Google. Our camera doesn’t work outside Camberley…..)
Wasn’t a similar application launched last year? Also, I thought a drive thru coffee shop was coming on the site of the old Bird in Hand pub opposite?
DHYB !
I THINK so, and I THINK it was turned down, and it also failed on appeal. So this is a Mk II application. (I don’t even know how to spell Bagshot, let-alone what’s happening there….)
Don’t like codes! Is it rude?
Something to do with holding your breath, Shirley. Plus D for ‘Don’t’.
You’re right about the coffee shop. And this isn’t the first application for the ‘Waitrose building’, I’m sure. But I don’t follow Bagshot developments very closely.
That’s good news as this has been empty for too long…any idea who owns this site?! I seriously think this area needs a really good DIY store
Shirley, I’ll answer your question as long as it doesn’t lead to another!! The site owner appears to be Nottinghamshire County Council, c/o Aberdeen Asset Management in Edinburgh. (Are you wiser or more confused by that?)
Even more intrigued! I l was born in Nottingham and moved after 23 years to the South! Dare not ask another question …..YET!
🙂
Don’t worry Eye, if you try to drive through Bagshot and past Waitrose, you’ll have plenty of time to familiarise yourself with the area as you sit in the traffic queue.
I must pack some survival rations and try it..
Thank you from a Bagshotian who is delighted that the remaining half of the development hasn’t been forgotten
But it won’t be over until the fat lady sings (or do I mean that the empty units are occupied?)
Yes, it failed on application then on appeal, so who knows what will happen now, i doubt a coffee shop will come Waitrose have one in store, I agree a DIY shop would be most useful to the local community but don’t hold your breath on any of the units opening for some time.
These things usually take time, Graham. An unbelievably long length of time!
It would be a nice spot for a garden centre…
The Eye will probably be travelling even further to the east to report on the CLOSURE of a garden centre….. But we’ve got to get our innoculations up to date first.
