Plastered in the High Street – and a puzzle

For a long time we’ve been watching the gradual conversion of a large shop at the top of the High Street into flats (and a small shop).  Suddenly, the building looks nearly complete from the outside.

The first of our photos shows that all the recesses along the top and front of the building have now been plastered and painted cream.  A great improvement over the raw blockwork that was visible in the middle until recently.

As our second photo shows, a grey shop-front has now been installed.

We can remember when this shop was occupied by Woolworth’s.  But the modifications have revealed – just about – a different name above the shop.  What was it? – we don’t know.  Our third photo shows just part of the name…  (The photo has been enhanced to emphasise the sign-writing, but we still can’t read it.)
