For what seems to have been years, this empty shop unit at the top of the High Street has had a small Chancellor’s poster in the window saying something like ‘Let, subject to contract’. But, not any longer. There’s another sign above the shop.
Once upon a time, the shop was occupied by the tailor Gieves and Hawkes. The Eye had a suit made there ages ago. The suit is no more; as the years passed the trousers seemed to get smaller around the waist….
But the last tenant was the Pine Cabin – a furniture shop. Just the ‘i’ remains of its name now.
