We’ve seen what we think is the borough council’s machine for removing chewing gum from the pavement. It’s a substantial thing on wheels. But we were surprised the other day to see this tiddly thing apparently doing the same job.
We guess it’s much cheaper to use. But what a pity that the job has to be done at all. We, the residents, have to put up with the unsightly mess and the cost of clearing it up.
Incidentally, it has been said that the ‘Eye’ is always critical of the borough council. In some respects, this is true. But as far as the cleanliness of the town centre streets is concerned, the Eye has always applauded the council’s performance. It shows what can be done.
