Harwoods is moving – and disappearing?

This notice has appeared in the window of Harwoods, the optician at the top of Camberley’s High Street.

We think the firm is moving to the former Santander premises further down the road.  (We did comment a few days ago that work was going on inside that building.  Maybe we now know the reason why.)  But the name ‘Bayfields’ is a new one to us.  Is this more than just a move?

We’ve never noticed before, but the name ‘John’ above the current shop seems to be in a different ‘font’ from the name ‘Harwood’.  The same applies to the notice in the window and in our photo.  There must be a bit of history there too….

      • We would like to take this opportunity to confirm that we are definitely not disappearing, in fact the complete opposite! We have now merged with the award-winning Bayfields Opticians Group.
We are very excited about this great step in the heritage of Harwoods and Bayfields.

We have invested substantially in state-of-the art premises and superb eye testing facilities at the very heart of Camberley town.

We would like to reassure you that the team will continue to give the same personal, expert attention to all our patients and clients. Our aim is not just to deliver the same service but enhance the service and improve your experience with us on an ongoing basis.

What Bayfields Opticians has to offer Camberley residents is a truly personal service from existing local, experienced and qualified team, as well as new Optometrists and highly specialised contact lens consultants.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to you all to the newly refurbished premises at 59-61 High Street on the 27th February.

  1. I had a letter from John Harwood some time ago to say that they have merged with a dentist from elsewhere (might have been the Midlands), but that we would still be seeing the same people.

    • Their new address is the building that used to have dodgy foundation! If you remember, the upstairs corner of the building started to move away from the rest of it – which is why there are ‘decorative’ metal straps around it. (They did excavate and underpin the corner pillar, so I doubt there’s a problem now.)

  2. Have just seen this item. I am a client of John Harwoods and my info from my last visit was that Bayfields are a medical company in Leeds and are looking to spread their wings in tHe South. Optician service will remain the same, but no mention was made regarding a move of premises or added services.
